A centerpiece is anything intentionally set up, as the most important and focus of attention, amidst other objects and extras set around.

In the diplomatic world, an ambassador is appointed by the head of state to represent him and the country of origin, in another nation or organization abroad. Once the ambassador arrives at the destination to carry out their duties, they set up a diplomatic mission in that receiving state, and every single day – the people who they meet, including the President/ King/ Prime minister there – they prioritize their country’s interests.

This ambassador cannot draw attention to him/herself. They can however communicate on behalf of their country’s leader and state their country’s position on a given opinion or matter.

Likewise, we as Christians, are made to become Christ-representers. We are not Christ. But what we do is Christ-defined and we live, talk, walk, behave Christlike.

One of the striking things is the embassy or consulate, where an ambassador sets up office in a receiving state.

For instance, If you wanted to travel to Switzerland and you visit its consulate or embassy within your country – you’d notice the Flags, color scheme, decor, and even the staff in the entire place give a vibe or feel of Switzerland. The way they talk, do things, photos on display, music playing in the background, literature content in the waiting lounge, etc, ( It’s like you are in a foreign country whilst within your own country)

In the same way, God and Christ Himself purposes for us.

Ephesians 5:1 – Be imitators of God… in other words, do as God does.

When we live in a manner that lets everyone around us recognize Christ in us, then we will have achieved carrying out His purpose of setting Him as our Centerpiece.

We ought to live in a way that Christ is seen in us, even before we talk, our actions ought to draw others towards Christ.

Christ gave a clear understanding of almost every aspect of life. How we deal with anger, lust, marriage, loving our enemies, retaliation, etc, He would go contrary to how the world defines life. He exalted Righteousness

Christ our Righteousness

1 Corinthians 1:30 – It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness, and redemption.”

Matthew 5:19-20 – Therefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches others accordingly will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.”

In the Jewish culture and Israel at large, Pharisees were considered to be righteous – based on their outward obedience to the law given by Moses (Torah). So, how then would a superior righteousness level, above that of the Pharisees, be possible?

Matthew 3:15, 5:17-18 – we are told of how Jesus came to fulfill all righteousness. This elevates Jesus Christ, not only as the one above righteousness of men, but He himself becoming righteousness.

Drawing from such perspective, having everything in us focused as Christ-centered, we are able to attain Righteousness by Faith!

When Christ is our priority and the definition of our lives and activities therein, the entire world, wherever we go – will notice that He is our centerpiece. This pleases Him and it gives us value – because we will be rewarded in Heaven, for letting Jesus be our centerpiece.

We are Christ Representers. His Centerpiece

Let me end by quoting lyrics from this amazing song:

“Everybody don’t understand, that’s cool but we gotta let ’em know that we are Christ Representers. … Let the Redeemed of the Lord say so,  live so, walk so…”
