“Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, vision cleared, ambition inspired, and success achieved.” – Helen Keller (American Author, 1880 – 1964)
Godly Character is your decision-maker when faced with opportunities that are about to compromise your integrity.
Opportunities that cause you to compromise on character, always present themselves in a very well packaged manner, and often, they are quite appealing and very hard-to-resist.
Character is a personal conviction that you live by. You are not willing to stand alone against everyone’s criticism, because you know what you’re standing up for. It’s the position that everyone respects you for, even if they disagree with it.
God Developed Character is defined by Righteousness.
Matthew 5:10 – “Blessed and happy and enviably fortunate and spiritually prosperous (in the state in which the born-again child of God enjoys and finds satisfaction in God’s favor and salvation, regardless of his outward conditions) are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake (for being and doing right), for theirs is the kingdom of heaven! “ (Amplified Bible, Classic Edition)
According to the words of Jesus on the scripture above, we get to understand that: When you choose Righteousness as a state of being (live by) and doing (defining your daily habits and deeds), you’ll be persecuted.
It’s a promise that: If you choose to let Righteousness define all that you do, you better get ready for the insults and ridicule. All because of Jesus.
But why is it important to stand up for what’s right? Because there’s a reward!
Romans 5: 3-4 – “And not only this but (with joy) let us exult in our sufferings and rejoice in our hardships, knowing that hardship (distress, pressure, trouble) produces patient endurance; 4 and endurance, proven character (spiritual maturity); and proven character, hope and confident assurance (of eternal salvation)”
Under-developed Godly character is dangerous for an individual. It can cause wavering and get you tossed around, whenever other people’s opinions and criticism are presented towards you. And if not careful, you’d even lose hope and God’s Kingdom as well.
There are men and women that we all knew as morally standing and upright – only to not find them in Heaven, when we go! Why? They focused so much on talents, gifts, opportunities, etc. and failed to work on their character!
